The Jr. Hawks tournaments provide a safe and healthy environment for youth boys teams to compete, engage with alumni, and win prizes in an Atlanta Hawks setting.

MLK Classic Tournament

(Jan 14-15, 2017)

The Jr. Hawks hosted the second annual MLK Classic with Fulton County Parks and Recreation and Atlanta City Parks and Recreation basketball players. Each organization chose  all- stars, both boys and girls, to participate. Each player was chosen based on athletic talents and leadership abilities.

The weekend kicked off at the Center for Civil and Human Rights, where the kids were engaged with current Atlanta Hawks players, Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders, and Atlanta Hawks Alumni to take a tour of the center. Following the tour the participants were treated to lunch and a workshop on the importance of leadership and confidence.

The weekend continued on Monday morning with the games being played at Adamsville Recreation Center. All players were given customized uniforms and fans were treated to t-shirts and premium items to cheer on the teams.

Black History Month Tournament

(Feb 11-12, 2017)

The Atlanta Hawks and the Jr. Hawks program celebrates Black History Month by bringing youth basketball players together for showcase games, with local Atlanta partner, Center for Hope at Bessie Branham.

This celebration highlights the dedication the organization has made to remain active at locations where they had previously refurbished or built courts. The games are free entry for all teams but players from every team submitted an essay on the topic, "I am Black History."

Eight (8) metro Atlanta teams each played one game and had an exclusive opportunity to have Atlanta Hawks Alumni guest coach. The alumni also did a panel discussion and Q&A session with all the teams discussing the importance of diversity and leadership demonstrated through sports.

Essay contest winners were chosen from each team and received a Hawks autograph items as a special prize. Appearances were made by the Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders and friends and family that came to watch games. The Atlanta Hawks foundation donated equipment to each team further providing access to the game.
